About the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture™
The economic, environmental, social, and cultural challenges facing today’s societies are being addressed by architects and planners as they search for a new definition of progress and the right balance between the environment and the people living on our planet.
Since 2007, the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture has rewarded the understanding of design as a collective process based on shared ethics, methods, and experiments. During the award’s existence, a community based on dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and visions in the field of architecture has grown—a think tank that over time has become a “do tank” and a driver of change.
The award annually recognizes five living architects or urban and landscape designers who are moving toward sustainability. The winners’ work provide clear insights into the search for ecologically responsible contemporary architecture that is fully in step with today’s ethical, civic, and social concerns; that is innovative in the areas of ecology, energy, materials, and technology; and that is progressive in its search for new standards for both public and private spaces.
Initiated and founded in 2006 by the architect and scholar Jana Revedin, the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture has since partnered with an academic board consisting of four universities represented by leading scholars. The organizing body of the Global Award is the scientific committee, including the Ecole spéciale d’Architecture, Paris; the University of Ljubljana; the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul; and the Università Iuav di Venezia.
