Description
Architecture Is Transformation celebrates the 2026 Global Award for Sustainable Architecture winners’
ability to welcome, embrace, and foster transformation in our built environment. Their work
demonstrates how urban and rural infrastructures can be reimagined, how architectural materials
can be adapted, and how immaterial aspects can be thoughtfully integrated into design strategies—
making built environments more responsive to rapidly evolving social and ecological challenges.
The book explores a wide spectrum of themes, ranging from heritage preservation and nature conservation
to cutting-edge technologies and experimental design strategies, highlighting their potential to
empower users—always with a commitment to social equality. Drawing on interviews with the award
winners and in-depth project analyses, the book offers powerful insights into how architecture can
drive urban renewal, foster civic empowerment, and safeguard the natural environment. It is a rich
source of inspiration for anyone interested in the transformative potential of design.
The winners of the “Architecture Is Construction” Global Award for Sustainable Architecture will be announced on April 15, 2026.
With contributions by Marie-Hélène Contal, Jana Revedin, James Steele, and the winners.
About the Award
The 2026 laureates will be unveiled on April 15 during a symposium at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul. At the crossroads of Europe and the Orient, Istanbul stands as a symbiosis between heritage and innovation, tradition and modernity. This unique setting mirrors the spirit of the Award: just as sustainable architecture builds bridges between cultures, technologies, and communities, Istanbul represents the epitome of dialogue and exchange – a meaningful place to reflect on the future of architecture and the city.
Founded in 2006 by architect and researcher Jana Revedin, the Global Award for Sustainable ArchitectureTM honors each year five leading architects, urban planners, or landscape designers whose work embodies a responsible, innovative, and deeply committed vision of sustainability.
With the patronage of UNESCO since 2011 and the endorsement of the International Union of Architects (UIA) since 2024, the Award has become much more than a prize. It is a global movement – a think tank turned “do tank” – uniting an international community of forward-thinking architects who place ethics, sustainability, and innovation at the very core of their practice.
