The Book Release for our latest volume Kinetic City & Other Essays by Rahul Mehrotra took place live online on September 13th, 2021. Mehrotra, the founder principal of RMA Architects and Professor of Urban Design and Planning, as well as the John T. Dunlop Professor in Housing and Urbanization at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, was in attendance to discuss his new book, which is his second publication with Architangle publishers.
Joining him for the occasion were our own CEO Cristina Steingräber, together with the poet, art-critic, cultural theorist and curator Ranjit Hoskote, the architectural theorist, critic and author Kaiwan Mehta and the photographer Rajesh Vora. Vora’s images are amongst those to be seen alongside Mehta’s essays in the book. The lively discussion benefited greatly from the varied perspectives of the discussants. It brought to life the “kinetic city” which Mehrotra has theorized over several years of practice, asked pertinent questions about how to design for the specific context of cities in the global South such as Mumbai, and how such contexts can inform design practice and theory. The talk also branched out into conversation about the process of creating such a publication as the one in question.
It was a pleasure to have guests from around the world log in and join us for this special occasion.
