The editor of our book Architecture in Dialogue, Director of the Architekturmuseum München and Professor at the Technical University of Munich, Andres Lepik, took part in the 14th cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture Symposium. Hosted by the Daniels Faculty at the University of Toronto, the digital affair took place on the 19th of November 2020. The event celebrated the six winning entries of the 14th Aga Khan Award for Architecture. It was a brilliant Thursday evening pastime for us in Berlin.

The discussion set forth to expound upon many of the themes around the relevance of architecture, particularly  in the Islamic world, in light of increasing global challenges. Such themes as community, conservation,  infrastructure, learning and promotion of construction in rural surroundings were at  the forefront. Two professors from the Daniels Faculty were present; Aziza Chaouni, principal of Aziza Chaouni Projects, and Brigitte Shim who is a principal at Shim-Sutcliffe Architects.  They have both previously work with the Aga Khan Foundation, a commonality they share with Noura Al Sayeh, an architect currently working at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) as Head of Architectural Affairs, who was also present. Finally, the director of the Aga  Khan Award for Architecture, Farrokh  Derakhshani, also took part. The wonderful exchange was a taste of the excellent discourse on social and ecological topics which accompanies the innovative and exemplary design presented in our monograph for this cycle of the  Aga Khan Award.
